College Experience

I had my masters in commerce in India, but my childhood dream was to be in medical field being a physically challenged woman it was very hard to travel and study. So I got into the college and studied medical assisting it took me 4 years to complete as I have a child who needs my assistance my husband was very supportive and helped me through the course. I had lot of help from my teacher who helped me with my work she was with me all the time. I will be doing my internship at Sutter medical center then I am a full fledged medical assistant. I also volunteer at Mercy Folsom Hospital monitoring blood pressure at senior citizen homes. I get lots of good wishes and prayers from them.
Being physically or visually challenged is not important but trying to achieve the career I like is very important to me. There are many people who made fun of me that I am physically challenged none of that mattered to me I ignored every body who told this to me and I continued what I want to achieve. Every person in this world are disabled in one way or the other some of them can be seen and some are hidden like people who talk trash, who are jealous, and other kinds of disability.
There are many people who say I am depressed, I don't know what to do. I don't understand life is too short and very precious to stay depressed instead they should see how they can be helpful to others, and do some thing useful and helpful to others.

Life in California Folsom.

When I came to know that I am marrying a man who lives in America I was shocked and scared because I don't know him and I have leave my parents and travel so far away. I married this man and came to America and trying to get to know every thing. My husband is very good very supportive with my college my child and any other help I want. He taught me how to drive and now I drive mini van I have Hand controls because I am physically challenged.
I have many Indian friends and we all celebrate all the festivals, join our kids to activities like dance, music, and language classes. Life is just like living in India only difference is I am not close to my parents. American people are lot nicer than our Indians in talking to people they are also lot helpful. It is not to say that Indians are bad but they don't know how to talk to a physically challenged woman I am say this because, one of my Indian friend told me that I cannot participate on the stage because I am physically challenged that statement devastated me. Anyway I ignored and moved on I realized that I can do lot more job than any normal person can do.

Diabetes

People with diabetes don't think about the complexity of the condition. Most of the people are under impression that it is no big deal and they continue eating everything they don't control their diet. People who are not disciplined end up with kidney failure and heart problem. Family whom I know the man was diabetic and wasn't controlling on his eating habits and he got into further complication like kidney failure and heart issues, and I tried telling him to control on his eating habit and he told me that he is used to eat like that for the past 60 years and he cannot change it now.

People with diabetes can eat everything but they should make small changes in their food, like fruit salad, people like to mix ice cream with fruit salad what we can do is we can add yogurt instead of ice cream or also fat free whipped cream.

Take medication and eat reasonable food and lead a happy life and live long for your children and spouse.

Raising a kid as a physically challenged mom

It is not easy for a physically challenged mom. I had a late marriage and a late pregnancy, there were many days when I used fall down and hospitalized so that the doctors can observe me and the baby. The due date came at last and I had a c-section and had the baby come out. After a long struggle to get a baby, I had to figure out how to take care of the baby my husband is gem of a man he was there every time when I need to change diaper or bath her. With my husband's, parents, sisters and my friend's parents help I was able to raise my daughter for eleven years.

My husband and I are from India, so I wanted to keep up our culture and tradition so, I joined her to Indian classical dance and Hindustani violin class. My daughter is a good dancer she has performed in many shows for which I am very proud of her. My daughter is good at school also. I some time feel that I am not able to help her like other moms do to their kids, my daughter does not ask or compare me with other moms, but I fell like that. I cook food that she likes to eat, I take her out where she would want to go play. Raising a kid and disciplining them is not a easy job. There were days when my daughter asked me that she in trouble in class because of another child and teacher punished my daughter and I had to get involved and complain this to the principal. I tell my daughter if the situation is not serious then ignore the person. To conclude I would say raising a kid is not a easy job.
